Dick Fosbury

The name Fosbury is synonymous with the high jump because Dick Fosbury was the man who innovated one of the most radical changes in the sport. He introduced the world to his "Fosbury Flop" on his way to winning the 1968 Olympic gold medal, setting new American and Olympic records. His technique is now the global standard in the event. He also demonstrated his control over his mind when pressure was greatest, with his "psyche-up" and concentration techniques.

The French magazine, L'Equipe, lists Fosbury as one of the top 100 athletes of the 20th century. He was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Committee Hall of Fame and he is currently serving as the General Secretary of the World Association of Olympic Winners.

Professionally, he is the co-founder and president of Galena Engineering, Inc., a civil engineering and land surveying company that specializes in land development and public works projects in the Sun Valley, Idaho area. He is a licensed civil engineer and land surveyor, and has served as the city engineer of Ketchum and Sun Valley, Idaho, and is the chairman of the Ketchum Area Rapid Transit Board.

Dick Fosbury shares insights from his athletic and business experiences when speaking to business groups, coaches, and athletes about innovation, success, and hard work. He has worked with many of the Fortune 500 companies in their marketing efforts and is active with both the National and International Special Olympics.
